“black humor,” igers, summer travel, rainy days

First of all, thanks for all the lovely comments You’ve made on the blog this week. Thanks to all!

This week has been kick-nalga, to use my favorite Spanglish word!
(Nalga is buttock/ass in Spanish)

This week I’m loving:

clementines >>> I’m obsessed
Cosi bagels + mascarpone cheese >>> a match made in bread heaven

Speaking of bread. How much do you love pizza?
The Neapolitans are trying to get pizza listed as an “intangible cultural icon” at the United Nations.
Read more about it here.

Have been coffee-free all week!

cheap tickets from Spirit airlines
Started planning travels to Geneva + Germany  for this summer. Meets #5 goal on my 2011 Goals list.

Rewatching It’s Complicated and Mama Mia >>> I am in love with Meryl Streep
The Ipad’s UK Classical Music App >>> helps me write faster :)

Just cried on the phone over the most heartfelt Thank You I’ve ever received!

went to a fancy dinner with Washington media luminaries >>> Jon Stewart’s Senior Black Correspondent Larry Wilmore was hilarious. So was New York Senator Weiner. He made fun of his own boorish faux pas in doing live TV interviews. At the end of on such interview an angry Weiner sarcastically tells the anchor “Great interview. You’re Ace!”

Are you an Iger? If you miss the immediacy of poloraids, you’ll love Instagram.  I’ve been taking lots of pictures on this app lately. A group of uber fans started Instagramer.com and organize events around the globe with fellow Igers to share their digital artworks.  For $ 14 you can get  a book of stickies of your pictures.

Have you ever made a Bucket List or Rest of My Life Resolutions ?
Well, one New Orleans artist took this ordinary idea and ran with it. Candy Chang made a collaborative installation out of a dilapidated abandoned building in New Orleans. Anyone can come and write down their Life Goal here. It will be an ongoing project so if you go to New Orleans soon, you can grab and spot and tell the world how you plan to be wonderful in this life!

“Once the wall is filled, we wash the board with water and start with a clean slate again. We are documenting all responses and some will be included in a book. I have received many requests from people who’d like to install it in their city, so we’re looking into ways to manufacture an affordable stencil (I made this one by hand. It is a lot of cutting). We’re also interested in visiting your city and figuring out ways to install it together. If you’re interested in spreading the love, or if you have a site suggestion or beyond, let us know!” – Candy Chang

Several people wrote things that are about being generous to others like “Save a Life.” Others were humbling like “finish school” and “see my daughter graduate.”

Art inspiring Art?

We had a few days of rain this week which dampened my mood but look how Ken Shung beautifully captured a rainy day!

Which reminds me of  the Impressionist painting by Gustave Caillebotte…

I may just be inspired to go take some rain pictures today :)
Enjoy this Thursday!

a lush oasis in florida

A lush oasis

This little spot is a nook in the Spring Hill Botanical garden and yet it felt miles away from Florida, as though in some scared spot in an East Asia country, in a place where you could meet Buddha.

Namaste

fountain of flowers

A creative way to dress up fountain. Flowers instead of water gushing out. Florida is known for its large retiree community and the Spring Hill retirees seem to converge upon the Botanical garden. Many of them come here to buy flowers for their homes and several of my family’s neighbors volunteer to prune the grounds.

blue house

But this effulgent verdure is not just for well-manicured botanical houses, it flourishes everywhere – even the grass is beautiful here. With some light pruning this naturally growing ground cover plants has nearly swallowed up our little shed-house.

simplicity

Mood>>> Simplicity

Have you heard Carla Bruni’s music?

Peaceful. Well-crafted lyrics.

She does a lot with a simple guitar.

little stories of love lost and won

Perfect for a day in the slow lane.

Happy Hump Day. Hope you get over it without grunting :)

the only warm day this week
