About Goals
This blog is sorta like a progress report on my course in Living. I’ve always done things the right way the easy way my whole life. It’s easy not to embarrass yourself or do anything remotely outstanding ( in the broken down meaning of the word).
A friend once told me that I was a coward. It was one of those moments when someone says something so harsh, so true, yet so sensible and with such goodwill that it leaves you breathless because you would never have had the courage to climb that high by yourself. A good friend, indeed.
I have realized that the golden mean has not brought me that special feeling, you know? Some call it happiness, some call it purpose. I’m taking about that force that pulls you, that makes the day mean more than just the lapse between sunrise and sunset. That stuff that makes you go ahhh. Yes, this is spectacularly cheesy but go with it. I’m practicing my strokes in embarrassment:
2011 is going to be my Year
Theme: Follow-Through. Follow-Through
1. Write my book: collection of short stories about the Haitian American diaspora
2. Develop a Photoblog
3. Write an engaging Personal Blog
4. Publish at least one article every week. Working on that here.
5. Travel to a least 3 places: maybe Chicago with my architecture-obsessed 11-year-old brother. I’d like to see Boston, Philadelphia and get out of the country. Tickets to Alaska ( june is warmest or July )? Visit the ‘rents in Florida, probably.
7. Learn to drive – this would facilitate the travel part, right? And also overcome my fear of highways.
8. Bike like this. First, I’ll have to learn.
6. Write Everyday Until Satiated
7. Read one book in French every 2 months – this language is dying inside of me because I don’t speak it on a daily basis anymore.
8. Read at least 3 books ( one lit mag count as one book, I have to give myself some growing room :) every week.
9. Be Patient
10. Embrace happenstance, meet drudgery with dilligence and celebrate the Awesome in Everyday.
11. Be. Be. Be.

This schedule sounds like it is made for someone who has more strength amd more drive than enyone else; I honestly can’t see where coward fits in it.
