My Mom got a job! This woman inspires me so much. She just finished her nursing degree and now she’s got a job, which is a huge blessing in this economic recession. And, of course, I hope you and yours had a Happy Mother’s Day on Sunday!
It’s my birthday week! I had a great birthday on Monday. People just heaped joy on me. Very very sweet. Flowers, camera flash ( they knew I wanted it). No chocolates because I’m allergic to it.
I booked a June ticket to Berlin and every time I think of it I want to start running off in that direction. These Berlin photographs have got me excited.

People don’t need the experts to tell them that sitting around too much could give them a sore back or a spare tire. The conventional wisdom, though, is that if you watch your diet and get aerobic exercise at least a few times a week, you’ll effectively offset your sedentary time. A growing body of inactivity research, however, suggests that this advice makes scarcely more sense than the notion that you could counter a pack-a-day smoking habit by jogging. “Exercise is not a perfect antidote for sitting,” says Marc Hamilton, an inactivity researcher at the Pennington Biomedical Research Center. - New York Times
The study suggests that muscle activity that burns fat and enzymes that control the breakdown of those fats are on par with those of a “dead horse” when you sit down for an extended period of time. It’s best to break up the 8-hr desk shift with breaks. I wrote about how to incorporate more walking in your life over at the Huffington Post!
The men in the study who spent six hours or more per day of their leisure time sitting had an overall death rate that was about 20 percent higher than the men who sat for three hours or less. The death rate for women who sat for more than six hours a day was about 40 percent higher. - New York Times
Medical Billing and Coding has some graphics and stats to bring the message home: move your tush!
