Have a good Friday to you, Beautiful People,
“The night is young, and by the grace of magic, so are we.” — Michael Buckley
As I mentioned in this post, we have had to cozy up because the rain has come to stay for a while. It has been raining in Washington DC and despite the fluvial waters that flooded the Beltway {14th Street Bridge} the city stayed up late for Fashion Night Out.
There is nothing to be afraid of,
it is only the wind
changing to the east, it is only
your father the thunder
your mother the rain
In this country of water
with its beige moon damp as a mushroom,
its drowned stumps and long birds
that swim, where the moss grows
on all sides of the trees
and your shadow is not your shadow
but your reflection… Margaret Atwood
Fashion Night Out is akin to Noche en Blanco {or Notte in Bianco in Italy}. Georgetown boutiques and shops have special tables set up for shoppers with drinks and other treats. I’ve always loved Anthropologie’s whimsical laundry-day clean aesthetic since I stumbled on one of their stores in San Francisco. That was a major stop yesterday as their Sale room is always open and there were as usual providing great service – sparkling pink lemonade with Hershey’s kisses. Tommy Hillfigher chose, as usual, the more risqué serving Champagne in crisp tall flutes while we mingled and looked through trays of underwear – some of which you could see on the mannequins, who seemed to be quite excited to be there if we are judging by the way they wore those briefs {See a Tommy store for full shock value}.
Georgetown is a quaint neighborhood that makes excellent postcard pictures. But Georgetown at night is deliciously romantic. The cobblestone side streets lend an old-time elegance to the place and people, excited and cheerful, made the night truly magical. I wish opportunities like this come around more often. It was a lighten a rainy week, to break down the work day and fold up all our worries and walk into Night’s embrace.
Stay adventurous, stay young!
